Merry-Go-Round Carriage Rides was founded in the summer of 2015 by local animal enthusiast Mary Ann Mudd. After volunteering with numerous different animal-orientated businesses, including Airborne Raptors in Flagstaff, Arizona and the Equine Therapy Co-op in Thousand Oaks, California, in addition to studying Exotic Animal Training and Maintenance at Moorpark College in California, she returned to her hometown of Flagstaff to try something new. It's been quite the journey, but we are proud to finally offer a fun new way to experience downtown. We hope you'll enjoy the ride as much as we do!

Forest is our eight year old palomino Morgan horse. He was bred and trained by the Amish in Missouri. Morgan horses are one of the first American breeds and are known for their intelligence, courage, and good disposition. We would like to thank the horses and humans that have helped us over the years - Queenie and Gypsy, Magic and Jimmy are all Percheron Draft Horses, the same that knights once rode into battle. Red and Rock are Clydesdales, the same type of horses that Budweiser uses. They are the gentlest giants and have touched many lives. Grace and Jill are ten year old Belgian Draft Horses and they are a phenomenal team. Draft horses are some of the strongest horses and weigh on average 2,000 lbs – that’s one ton each - a team together weighs as much as a small car! Ace and Spade are Tennessee Walking Horses and are certainly the flashiest team we’ve seen.

All of our animals receive the highest care available, including regular vet checks to make sure they are happy and healthy and even visits to the chiropractor! All of our drivers are certified for safety and first aide. We put our customers’ safety and our horses’ health first, which is why we will not operate in unsafe conditions, such as icy roads or temperatures over 90 degrees. In the event we are unable to fulfill a ride, we will be happy to reschedule or offer a full refund.

Without the support of our community, we never would have made it. That's why we believe in giving back to our community as well. A portion of our proceeds will always be donated to local animal shelters, rescues, non-profits and charities.

Look for us downtown!
